Fat injection is a procedure in which fat is removed from one area of the body, purified and then injected into another area. The most common use for fat injection is a safe and reliable method of augmenting cheeks, lips, or the face as a whole. It can also be used to correct facial wrinkles and folds, such as crow’s feet or frown lines, but to a lesser extent. The fat used in these procedures is taken from another part of your body, usually your hips, belly, or thighs.

Recovery time

After fat grafts, bruising occurs on the skin where the injections were made. This bruising should fade within two weeks. Swelling may also occur in the area where the injections were made. Major swelling will typically resolve within 48 hours.

Possible complications

Albeit a standard procedure, overcorrection is routine with fat injection because of the possibility of resorption of the injected fat cells by your body over time. Infection can follow poor surgical technique or negligence of proper care after surgery. Slight lumpiness should resolve over time.
